Happy to find this population still here. Four individuals, each with unique patterning. Two of each under separate rocks (1 & 2, and 3 & 4). They have grown quite a bit since being observed by @ltimmo. The yellow spots on the mantle seem to be a feature present on all individuals.
Looking through previous observations it seems these can take on the colours of their prey ascidian to an extent. With these being purplish and see:
https://inaturalist.nz/observations/214917318 (the botrylloides here were golden yellow)
1,2,3 ~ 2 cm long 4 ~ 1cm long.
Shallow subtidal
Edit: G. castanea?
Tucked into a rock with a little bit of Botrylloides. A few egg coils nearby. A different location to the previous group so it must be a good season.
~2 cm long
Shallow subtidal
G. castanea?
4 juvenile Goniodoris sp. seen 16th and 18th January on host purple/yellow Botrylloides. The first one has rotated inside its "pit" in the ascidian between 16th and 18th Jan. Size 2.5- 3mm except for fourth photo slightly bigger at 4mm. Suspected adult and egg mass is as per my post 25 Mar 2021 (and another juvenile 18 Mar 21) Depth 5m. Several other individuals noted but difficult to photo.
Goniodoris sp. This one an adult with eggs. Approx 25mm long. Tried a few angles but no better high profile. @drmattnimbs @clinton @jpsilva castenea? nodosa? meracula? Thanks Richard
Very happy to finally find one of these. After a long time of searching many Botrylloides. Just this one individual within a large patch of Botrylloides on a shallow subtidal rock.
~4 mm long
Only place I have seen them. Quite a few
Just added a photo of the habitat
Doto approx 10mm long, very similar shape and colouration to those sighted in Otago Harbour but on different food source. These photos of same specimen, credit Tom Bliss second photo. Two individuals sighted.
Two individuals sighted, one in Thomson Sound as well. Not moving.
8m depth, two individuals here. Did not appear to be associated with any specific hydroid (Solanderia )
not sure if octocoral or family Clavulariidae. Are polyps all closed? Photo credit Tom Bliss
8 individuals all within an area ~ 3m x 3m, although none were mating. Not seen this 'aggregation' previously. Water temp 8C, depth 4m.
We found 10 of these yesterday, so these are the best photos (of more than one).
This time they were on the sunny side of the seal colony, all awake and slithering around at 2-230 p.m. All probably within 10 metres of the sea in shallow rockpools, probably average depth of 10cm of water.
Average size 1cm.
