South Section - May 1, 2024

I walked the south section of Alma Bridge Road, from the intersection at Aldercroft Heights Road to the stop sign.
Time: 9:05 am - 11:00 am
Weather: Clear skies, slight wind. Temperature started at 58 degrees F, and climbed to 65 degrees F by the end of the patrol
Traffic: 7 cars; 7 trucks; 1 3+-axle truck; 10 bicyclists; 1 pedestrian (runner); 6 parked cars (2 of which were surveying the road)
Newts: 0 dead newts; 0 live newts

May 10, 2024

North section - 5/3/2024

Friday, 8:50-10:30 am. 1 dead newt, no live ones
Coverage: Jones trailhead to the second stop sign. I walked alone.
I documented 1 dead newt.
Other roadkill: beetles, crickets, and a juvenile rattlesnake.
Traffic - 28 cars, 15 trucks, 1 motorcycle, 3 bikes, 15 pedestrians, 18 parked cars.
I had a nice conversation with a Midpen ranger. He got a sticker!

North section - 5/9/2024

Wednesday, 12:25-2:15 pm. 3 dead newts, no live ones
Coverage: Jones trailhead to the second stop sign. I walked alone.
I documented 3 dead newts.
Other roadkill: a bird, a fence lizard, and a checkerspot butterfly.
Traffic - 33 cars, 13 trucks, 1 motorcycle, 12 bikes, 7 pedestrians, 20 parked cars (5 at the Miller parking lot!).

Weather: Clear skies; no wind; Temperature was 57 degrees F at the beginning of the patrol, and reached 75 degrees F by the end of the patrol
Traffic: Cars=13, trucks=11 (one of which was towing a long flat-bed trailer); parked cars=5; bicycles=7, pedestrians=1, motorcycles=1
Newts: 3 dead, adult newts (1 on reservoir side; 2 on hill side); no juveniles; no live newts
Other findings: Western Alligator lizard

North Section - May 14, 2024

Date: Tuesday, May 14, 2024
Coverage: from the beginning of the Jones Trail to the 2nd stop sign, then back
Time: 8:51 am - 10:10 am
Weather: clear skies, no wind. Temperature started at 58 degrees F, climbing to 66 degrees F by the end of the patrol
Traffic=cars: 21, trucks=9; 3-axle trucks=3; parked cars=7; bicycles=5; pedestrians=1
There were 2 people surveying along the side of ABR;
One of the 3 axle trucks was a parked Firetruck with crew descending to the reservoir.
Newts: 0 dead newts; 0 live newts
Other findings: 1 live beetle walking in the middle of ABR. I placed it back on the side of the road.

My observations: none to report.
