Mark garden plants as "Cultivated/Captured"!
Our intensive False Creek BioBlitz officially starts in two days (Saturday September 1), and we're so excited to see what Hakai scientists and community scientists find!
We want to remind people who are recording their findings with iNaturalist to be sure to mark non-wild organisms as "cultivated/captive", such as plants deliberately planted in gardens. We've decided to include these observations within our project as it will help visually show the amount of the historic shoreline that is now landscaped with cultivated plants, especially as such plants are often non-native species. But it's important to differentiate them from wild organisms!
Marking observations as "captive/cultivated" is very straightforward—simply check the box when adding the other basic details to your observation during the uploading process.

And ICYMI, we want to invite all contributors of the False Creek BioBlitz project to a meet up at the start of a weekend of incredible effort to document the biodiversity of False Creek.
When: Friday September 2, 5:30-6:30pm
Where: Outside Creekside Community Centre (sea wall entrance)
Join Friends of False Creek and scientists from Hakai Institute as we wander the sea wall and explore Habitat Island and Hinge Park. We’ll add observations to the project with a focus on plants and birds (and of course whatever else we might find!).
