It has to be hard to explain what life was like, what the earth was like, when describing a particular organism in time and space. In a way, moving the age of life back a few more hundred million years is almost nothing. Then again, it's everything. Human knowledge is so thin regarding most species and the complications of the web of life. It is probably reassuring to just be able to change one's own oil filter on his or her car these days; never mind understanding the meaning of life;-)

Half a billion years old and scientists quibble over the age of life. Age is a couple million years either side of half a billion years. Good grief.
