Hi all,
I hope you are enjoying this wonderful weather for observing!
BJ Stacey @finatic let me know about a project CalAcademy is currently running, Snapshot Cal Coast 2018, https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/snapshot-cal-coast-2018, I wanted to pass along in case you have yet to hear about it. It's a statewide effort to document plants and animals found along the California coast. No need to stick to the beach and tide pools, any coastal area in California is fair game.
The Nat is supporting this effort with a Canyoneer led hike (free) at Sunset Cliffs National Park on Wednesday, June 20 at 8 AM, https://www.sdnhm.org/calendar/public-programs/canyoneer-hikes/canyoneer-hike-list/ please join us if you can, no need to register in advance.
As this is a BioBlitz, there is no need to formally join the project on iNat. Any observations made between now and June 20 along and just offshore of California coasts will automatically be added.
To view an event list, a most wanted species list and project results, please visit the pages run by CalAcademy,
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/snapshot-cal-coast-2018
or their website page for this event,
https://www.calacademy.org/calcoast.
Results will be shared with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Ocean Protection Council, and all of us taking part.
This is a great opportunity to contribute to a better understanding of California’s amazing marine environments!
Happy observing,
Lauren

Awesome, thanks for sharing Hector!
:)
Ooo, thanks for the reminder! I'll have to get the coast.
Neat, my wife and I will change our Saturday hike to something more coastal
Oh that's great, have fun!
great. sounds fun...
Thanks to everyone who took part in the 2018 Snapshot Cal Coast!
I learned from the organizers there were 39 events spread over every coastal county in California.
In just one week, 727 people made 14,036 observations of 1562 species!
You can dig deeper into the stats on the project page, https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/snapshot-cal-coast-2018
I will be sure to share-out any updates on the final results as I receive them.
Happy observing!
Lauren
