I am an associate Professor at the Department of Life Sciences (with tenure), Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra, vice-coordinator of the Centre for Functional Ecology (CFE). My current interests are focused in the study of the ecology and evolution of plant species. Together with Sílvia Castro, I coordinate the FLOWer Lab, whose objectives are to study plant diversification and sympatric speciation through polyploidization processes and the plant-pollinator interactions that generate the current diversity patterns in plants. In applied science, he is interested in exploring pollination as an ecosystem service critical to the sustainability of agroecosystems. The group has made efforts towards the conservation of biodiversity, through studies of reproductive biology, ecology and in situ and ex situ conservation of endangered species and valuing of endogenous genetic resources.
