THANK YOU ALL

I should have done this long ago, but I would like to take this opportunity tonight to thank each and every one of you who’s contributed to this project. It’s aim when I initially set it up, was to have a place where I could see observations of evident threats within a general local radius as another observer posting a turtle population I wasn’t aware of.

Thanks to you all I have been able to protect nests from foxes and continue to monitor them so thanks again, you’re genuinely helping to save a species. It’s gone further than that though, forming friendships with one fish expert in particular who I cannot thank enough for his generosity and sharing of knowledge regarding cichlids and other invasive freshwater fish. This had led to me doing surveys on the Pearl Cichlids for DPIRB, who in turn became aware of the short-fin eel problem we have at Hyde Park. Broadview Park and an undisclosed site in Hillary’s (I haven’t witnessed the third one myself but trust the source).

I would also like to make a point of mentioning Murdoch’s incredibly devoted work to protect the species. This is in no way a “rival” movement; Anthony and I communicate regularly and I implore anyone who cares for this species to make
an account on TurtleSAT and register for the next info session via the link below, which will be held sometime in July.
Please post your observations of nests that aren’t compromised there rather than here, or obscure the location when posting nests as TurtleSAT keep the locations private and I don’t want to risk the wrong set of eyes (illegal pet trade etc.) using such observations to steal the very thing this project aims to keep safe from harm.

So again, thank you all so much and I hope that you, too, keep safe from harm.

Love,

Dom.
