Sorry for awful photos. It matches appearance of the Australian Swamp Rat.
Groups of up to 6 individuals once regularly observed roosting under building eaves. Have not been sighted under the eaves in many years now.

Active in daytime, nearly hairless tail, constantly moving, dense rainforest type 7.8.2 on margins of Lake Barrine in National Park, could not get a good look at "thumb" of rear foot which should be clawless
