Indian Coral Tree (Erythrina variegata) planted along roadsides around Hanga Roa and in other areas of Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Photographed on 2 August 2017.

Many people on the island misidentify this tree as the Chilean Coral Tree or Chilean Firetree (Embothrium coccineum) which also occurs commonly on the island.

It is spreading away from planted areas and is starting to become invasive in some areas.
