On a zinnia leaf
Very exciting yard bird! Bright, big-headed Empidonax with relatively short primary projection. Yellowish eyering slightly thicker behind the eye than in front. Fairly short and wide bill with bright yellow-orange underside. Head and mantle green, black wings with pale yellow edgings on coverts and tertials. Yellow underparts. Tough to see because it was flycatching high inside the canopy of a neighbor's hackberry but came out to a nearby snag and allowed good looks twice.
