Lenga leaf up close. Found in Trapananda forest preserve. Able to tell this is Pumilio Lenga due to the tooth like edges and clear veining.
Ñirre tree 1.5 meters in height near the bank of Laguna Calluqueo. Gray/brown bark with mostly red leaves as winter approaches in Southern Chile. Rough leaflet edges with a vein down the center. Leaflets curve inwards.
Found approximately 100m from the edge of a glacier on a north facing slope. Elevation was approximately 1120m. This individual was growing in a small gulley with a fast flowing rivulet nearby.
Nire. (Nothofagus antarctica). Small tree found growing along trail. About 4 feet high and in leafing phase. Younger tree compared to the rest of the taller trees around. Found along Los Exploradores trail to see glacier in temperate rainforest habitat.
