This is the first dead Podabrus tomentosus beetles I've found clamped onto a plant. I have to figure out what's going on here!

Description

This dead Podabrus rugosulus beetle is clamped onto an ash leaf with its elytra and wings spread. It seems to have been infected by a parasitic fungus. I found more of these dead beetles clamped onto leaves of other plants such as black-eyed susan and goldenrod. The most common search result I found when looking into this phenomenon was for Eryniopsis lampyridarum, but this species is only known to infect two species of Chauliognathus beetles. Even stranger, there are many Podabrus tomentosus beetles in my yard, but they don't seem to be affected by this fungus. Hopefully this can get ID'd at least to genus.
