light-box's Identifications

The Hawthorne Crossing Conservation Area is managed by the Campbell County Conservation District (KY), is currently undeveloped (no trails) and so not open to the public, but I was allowed to take a peek to check for interesting plants.

I don't see Tradescantia very commonly in my rambles around northern Kentucky, but blooming plants were scattered throughout the fields and sunny, grassy roadsides that border the dirt (or grass, at this time of the year) road running up through the property. The plants shown here were at the upper end of the road, on a high hilltop where there used to be a house or some outbuildings. The fields in that area hosted several interesting wildflowers, including Coreopsis and Monarda.
