bnormark's Identifications

Found on the bottom 10% or so of many stems of Brown-eyed Susans and Japonica, which are growing side by side in my front yard. I cut the stems and threw away all the visible ones and am hopeful they won’t spread further. I thought they were a fungus, but my online research seems to indicate they are Indian wax scale. If my ID is correct, any remaining insects will hatch in the crawler stage in late May or June and I will check the plants for them then. I am hopeful not to have to use chemical control.
