I'm not sure if this guy climbed up on this thing on purpose or not. I guess it was on purpose because I saw another one out of the water in a similar situation. This particular turtle might have one blind eye though. It appeared to be mating season even though they aren't yet mating or at least I didn't see them mating. There are at least five hanging around each other in two or three different parts of the water.

First record of this species in Arlington County since 1977. Adult female found under a log in an upland area dominated by mountain laurel, similar to the habitat I’ve found this species in elsewhere in northern Virginia. This was in a park that has been extensively surveyed, yet there aren’t even any historical records of this species from this park. Absolutely amazing to find this species somewhere it has gone undetected for all this time.

??? DOR less than half mile from my house. Appears to be a patternless pituophis! When I got out of my car to ID it first thought was (Desert Patchnose) but soon realized it was a pit. I have never observed this morph in the wild until now. Hope to find another alive to share. Less than a mile as the crow flies from the San Bernardino / Riverside County line. Morongo Valley, CA
