Absolutely everywhere on the Laramie Plains! I'm used to seeing this species in scattered colonies, AKA towns, but then lots of unoccupied habitat between them. There were P-Dogs just everywhere here. Also saw 1 Badger digging into a burrow, but once it saw me it never came back out.

A young prairie dog appeared to be eating a lizard that was run over in the road. I watched it eating it for at least 2 minutes as cars drove around it and finally scared it off the road.

This is the most scarred prairie dog our staff has ever seen. After taking this photo, Lauren Keller, an AmeriCorps Environmental Educator at Bluff Lake, also noticed this prairie dog had long scars running across its back. Our Natural Resource Manager, Tess Robeson, says the injuries may have been caused by "attempted predation and the prairie dog was able to escape, or contact fights between prairie dogs over territorial disputes." As far as we know, prairie dogs do not get scars like this from diseases like the plague. Please let us know if you have any other ideas about what may have caused them!
