"Fruitbody up to 6cm H., 1-3 mm thick, concolorous stalk, cylindric to long-conic, usually unbranched, brown to black, very though; interior white, soft; surface smooth or roughened by embedded perithecia. Spores elliptic-inequilateral to somewhat crescent shape, with a spiraling germ slit, smooth, brown. Solitary or in groups on the fallen fruits of sweetgum; fall and early winter. Southeastern USA." Bessettes and Beug.

Continuing vagrant. Overall grayish except for white throat and eye ring, red flanks, and blue tail. Many thanks to the generous homeowners! Remember to park on the south side of Wranglebrook Rd, and then walk across that road into into the neighborhood, going straight up Spring St. to 26A on the right (left side of the green house).

wasp mimic moth

After dinner each evening at Bosque de Paz I checked the outside of the dining room and was rewarded with a really good showing of moths and other insects. I apologize for not trying to ID any of them, but I don't know anything about them and my internet access is poor at the time.
