Identified by size and color. There were 2 individuals but the photographs are of just one. They were swimming in Otter Creek and viewed from Otter View Park. The third photo (blurry) shows extensive white on lower face and neck which, besides size, I believe helps distinguish it from mink.

This is the first "set" of grouse we had seen on this trail today. See other observations for second set.
We turned a corner and startled three grouse, two females and one male. The females were watching the male performing a courtship dance, and they skittered into the bushes not too long after they saw us. The male continued his bobs and steps down and around the next bend in the trail, disappearing into the bush once he was out of our eyesight. This image set's focus is on the male
