I've never seen this behavior before. I thought it was a turtle at first glance. It stayed in this position until I had completely passed by, them emerged an flew toward the clutch observed nearby.

Found this while looking for pink Oblong-Winged Katydids.

Battle of the non-natives. I heard some movement in the vegetation and found this Chinese Mantis trying to capture a Common Wall Lizard. The lizard was able to escape.

An unfortunate accident caused the death of a cottonmouth. Inside the snake, there was a northern water snake. Inside the water snake, there was a sculpin. Food chain in action!
