posting backwards

Have had great deal of problems with my computer & cameras, particularly relating to my ID. My SD cards got completely filled up over the past month or so. Either I had to erase my cards or purchase more, which is difficult to do in this small town where I live. So over the next few days/weeks, iNaturalist will be receiving my observations not in chronological order, but as I manage to photograph, upload, process, then post. Apologies to all!

  2. A Phrynus operculatus, a type of Whip-scorpion was found taking a stroll around the house, this specimen was then photographed and then released back into a empty plot, which can be seen here,

Adding detailed information to our project~

There are other ways to add details to our data for the Washington Native Bee Society project.

THE MOST IMPORTANT WAY TO HELP IS

Thank you to all participants!

Thank you to everyone who participated in this years BioBlitz. I've been working on compiling the results and will post them here as I get them done. We still have about half the iNaturalist posts that need to be verified. If you have the expertise, or know someone who does, please take a look at the "Needs ID" entries and see if you can help.

We had a total of 50 folks who assisted with observations, whether assisting with live trapping, leading walks, mist-netting bats, ca...

1st day of #30DaysWild!

Today is the 1st day of #30DaysWild! Annual challenge from the UK Wildlife Trusts. I decided to go down to Wapping by the River Thames in London to see what I could find. Despite being rather windy and overcast I saw some insects, birds (including one of my personal favourites, a Jay), a Ladybird Pupa, a couple of butterflies and lots of pollinators. I saw some fast flying house martins (too quick to photograph) but I did catch one sitting in it's nest. I also looked up as I was walking ...

Karhuja vilisemällä

Yksi riistakamerapaikka osoittautui aarreaitaksi: kameraan tallentui muutaman päivän aikana vähintään 2-3 eri karhua, mäyrä, ilves ja useita eri hirviä, mukaan luettuna emä ja pieni vasa. Siirsin paikalle kaksi kameraa lisää, jotta saisin (toivottavasti) lisää kuvia eri kuvakulmista. Yhdellä videolla näkyy kaksi karhua syömässä ruohoa samaan aikaan, mutta toinen karhuista näkyy vain osittain (en saanut hyvää kuvakaappausta, jossa kaksi karhua näkyisi selvästi).

Pelkäsin liikkumi...

My walk in Jockey Hallow

Today I walked in Jockey Hallow located in Morristown National Park. I observed many different types of flowering plants as I walked with my family and my dog along the various hiking paths. Most of the flora in my area are, especially in the national park, giant angiosperms which are primarily oak trees. It was a bright warm day which made observing the flowering/blooming plants very pleasant. I also observed what I believe is Siebold's Viburnum, a white flowering plant that is an invas...

May Pollinator Spotlight: Cuckoo Bees

In the natural world, the struggle for survival is a difficult, often harsh constant. In the persistent evolutionary arms race of eat or be eaten and competition over resources, species have adapted ingenious survival strategies to thrive in this bustling ecosphere. Bees are an excellent example of highly developed adaptations. Eusocial bees, like the honey bees we’re all most familiar with, are capable of exceptionally efficient, industrious harmony. They build their own homes, care for...

Walk in my neighborhood

I went on a long walk in the woods near my house, as I often do, but making an effort to pay attention to the plants I passed made me realize how much biodiversity there is around me. That is not to say that I live in the most biodiverse place in the country, I certainly do not believe that, I just realized that not all green leafy plants are the same. I spent most of my walk looking for a plant that would fall into the seedless vascular plant family, keeping an eye out for ferns in part...
