April Fool's Day. Afternoon

After the day's rain, the sun came out and it was 60 degrees or more. After looking over the Metacomet properties I was tempted to add some more sightings along the Eastern half of the Lake Manchaug Overlook . And what a fine few hours it proved to be. I was not expecting a few wood frogs to chime in and reveal a nearby vernal pool. A raven passed overhead and even a couple gulls passed over the property. Woodpeckers were out both drumming and calling. Meanwhile, owing to the rain in the morning, the mosses and lichens were in full force. This site is overwhelmingly composed of mountain laurel in the understory with a decent population of chestnut oaks along with red and white oaks above. Like a few other sites I've visited, the terrain is composed of regular ribs of rocks that rise above the landscape at regular intervals like scales on the back of some stegosaurus. My observations today put me over the 8,000 mark for observations... nice!
